About John D. Shreck
Founder of JDS Financial Management PC — bringing 25+ years of experience, a personal connection to the medical profession, and dedicated attention to every client.
My path to accounting wasn't a straight line — and I think that's what makes me better at it. I grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, and it was actually my time as an accounting specialist in the U.S. Army that first sparked my interest in the field. After my service, I earned a bachelor's degree in Economics and Finance from the University of Iowa in 2002, and my career took off from there.
When my wife was accepted to medical school at Baylor in Houston, I followed her south — and honestly, it was one of the best things that could have happened for my career. I spent two years as a financial analyst before transitioning into public accounting with a prestigious local firm, where I earned my CPA license. In 2006, we moved to Salt Lake City for her residency, and Utah quickly started to feel like home. I continued growing my accounting career and earned my MBA from the University of Utah with an emphasis in Tax, Finance, and Operations.
After more than a decade of working inside other organizations, I founded JDS Financial Management PC in 2013. The reason was simple: I wanted to do things the right way. That means delivering quality advice at a fair price, working directly with clients, and treating every person's financial situation with the attention it deserves.
When you work with JDS Financial Management, you work with me. I'm responsive, accessible, and committed to delivering thorough, timely work. I leverage the latest technology to run lean and efficient — and those savings go directly back to my clients.
Our Values
Our core values aren't aspirations — they're the principles that shape every client interaction and every piece of work we deliver.
We hold ourselves to the highest professional standards. Our clients trust us with sensitive information and consequential decisions — we take that trust seriously.
We don't wait for problems to surface. We anticipate issues, spot opportunities, and reach out to clients before it matters — not after.
Every recommendation we make is in our client's best interest. We measure our success by yours — and we structure our relationships accordingly.
Tax law and financial regulations evolve constantly. We invest heavily in continuing education so our clients always receive current, accurate guidance.
We speak plain English, not accountant-speak. You'll always understand your tax situation and the reasoning behind our advice.
In accounting, the details matter enormously. We take pride in the accuracy of our work and review every return with the care it deserves.
